Diamond #4 Reconstruction
Charles Conrad, Wednesday, 24 February 2010
You may have seen the news that ASBA received a $50K grant from NT Sports and Recreation for the purpose of replacing and upgrading Jim McConville Diamond #4 enclosure.
The following is a description and scope of the project:
PROBLEM:
Existing backstop and dugout enclosure is deteriorating, lacks permanent shading, and is encroahed on by trees in the infield and the corner of right field. ASBA currently doesn't have a field fully enclosed with an outfield fence to support Little League games. Alice Springs does not have a field with an outfield fence to suit womens softball.
SOLUTION:
- ** Current backstop and dugout fencing will be removed. The new backstop dugout enclosure will offer the following features:
-- Deteriorating fencing / poles will be replaced.
-- Backstop will be reoriented to avoid / reduce the encroachment by trees in the corner of right field.
-- Dugouts will have concrete slabs for floors.
-- Entrance to dugouts will be opposite home plate to enhance safety.
-- Permanent shade structures will cover the dugouts / fan seating areas.
- An outfield fence (1 meter high) will be installed to suit Little League Baseball and Womens' softball.
** Will will likely have to mount a self-help effort to remove current enclosure in order to contain costs.

Baseball Sponsorship Update
Charles Conrad, Tuesday, 10 November 2009Although our 2009-2010 sponsorship drive is still not complete, we're happy to report great results so far.
Click here to see the whole list of sponsors.
Each and every sponsor deserves our thanks. Please make these businesses your first choice when you are shopping for products and services. As you patronize them, say thank you and tell them you are glad they support baseball.
Resources gained through sponsorship help us add value to our programs without passing those costs on to you.
This year we set out to replace some of the junior uniforms and were overwhelmed that som many generous businesses contributed. The result is new uniforms for all junior players.
Other sponsors are providing goods or services that lower our costs or facilitate valuable fund raising.
Please take advantage of the following special offers by our sponsors:
BIG O / MITRE 10
Big O / Mitre 10 VIP Card: If you already have one, don't forget to use it when you shop at Big O. If you would like a Big O / Mitre 10 Card, print this form and ask for your card at the front desk:
PRINT BIG O / MITRE 10 VIP CARD APPLICATION
You willl then get 10 percent off many of your purchases and Alice Springs Baseball Association gets 1 percent of the purchase...it all adds up to benefit you and baseball.
MOBIL LARAPINTA AND TEPPA HILLS
Fill your tank at Mobil Larapinta or Mobil Teppa Hill, and kindly ask the cashier to add your purchase to the 'Baseball Rebate.'
Tony Conner, the proprietor, will send ASBA a rebate of 2 cents for every litre purchased and give you an additional 2 cents off on every litre purchased
RED CENTRE PEST CONTROL VOUCHERS
ASBA still has a few vouchers left. These are worth $250. We are selling them for $199. Save money on your next treatment and help Alice Springs Baseball. Contact Chuck Conrad for purchase.
As you can imagine, that could add up over the 2009-2010 season. So, pass the word and tell your friends to ask for the Baseball Rebate at Mobil Larapinta and Mobil Teppa Hill.
Also, please thank Tony for supporting the Alice Springs Baseball Association.
HARVEY WORLD TRAVEL
Flying somewhere soon? Harvey World Travel are the travel professionals. There are also generous sponsors of Alice Springs Baseball. This year, they will pay us more when we travel through them. Every flight you book will earn a deposit into the HWT / ASBA Travel Bank. Just book your flights through them and tell them to credit the Alice Springs Baseball Travel Bank.

Canteen News
Charles Conrad, Monday, 26 October 2009
Please open the two files below for important information provided by our Canteen Coordinator, Jenny Bahnert.
Alice Springs Baseball Club
Canteen Bulletin #1 October 2009
Dear Parents, Players, Coaches, Volunteers and Supporters
Welcome to week 4 of the 2009/10 baseball season. So far, we have had an extremely busy and eventful season and with that have come many changes and challenges for our canteen and volunteer staff.
Our canteen aims to provide an interesting variety of food and beverages for our patrons as well as providing a profit, which in turn supports the club and its future. As the newly appointed Canteen Manager, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our current and previous volunteer staff for their contributions and support. Having said this I would also like to ask the coaches and parents of both junior and senior teams to once again, provide volunteers to assist with the running of our canteen for the remainder of the season.
For games played at the Lyle Kempster ground, we require a minimum of two persons for Canteen Duty for the duration of the game. We also require the same or additional volunteers to assist with cleaning and closing the canteen at night. For the canteen to be successful, the coaches of each team must ensure they have designated Canteen Volunteers for each of their games. This means that parents/players need to nominate a volunteer for Canteen Duty for at least two games per season so that existing volunteers are also able to enjoy the baseball and spend time with family and friends. As with most other sporting venues, our volunteers are the lifeblood of our sport so I thank you in advance for your assistance and ongoing support.
To date, the Canteen has undergone a number of upgrades that will allow us to keep better track of our stock and takings, these include:
· A new digital cash register with pre programmed prices and cash change advice. Training has been provided to existing staff and so far, we have the thumbs up! This will also assist with tracking Liquor purchases as required by the NT Liquor Licensing Commission;
· A new upright freezer to protect stock and provide additional storage (no more squashed rolls or icecreams….yippeeee!)
· An area in front of the Canteen has been cleared for tables and chairs so that patrons can socialise and support the club while enjoying their food and beverages in a comfortable, relaxed area. This area has also been designated as a ‘Safe Area’ under the Liquor & Licensing requirements. If by some chance the tables and chairs are not set up when you arrive, please ask the Canteen Staff.
Below are the current items available for purchase on game day however, with careful planning and forward preparation, we can cater for specialised occasions or requirements. Please feel free to make suggestions for additional or alternative food or beverage items, as we would much prefer you to purchase them through our canteen and support the club as opposed to bringing in outsourced items.
Upcomming Event - Halloween night – special foods availabe at the canteen have some fun and dress up!

Lyel Kempster Field Alcohol Policy
ASBA Committee, Monday, 14 September 2009
Established Northern Territory Laws as well as the conditions of the Alice Springs Baseball Association's Special Liquor license make it a serious offence to possess or consume alcohol at Lyel Kempster Field unless purchased from the Alice Springs Baseball Association's canteen.
Failure on the part of officials, players, or fans to comply with this requirement imperils ASBA's liquor license and our very ability to operate our baseball league.
ASBA is taking the following steps to commit ourselves to complete compliance:
1. All officials, coaches, managers, players and fans will be thoroughly informed and reminded of this requirement. The sign on the gate stating "NO ALCOLHOL ALLOWED" remains in place.
2. ASBA officials and members will observe the conduct of teams and fans with regards to this requirement.
3. Upon discovery of a violation, the police will be called to report the violation and request removal of the violator.
4. ASBA will ban confirmed violators from baseball events for a minimum period of 12 months.
Discussions and motions pertaining to these actions can be reviewed in the minutes of the ASBA Committee meeting on 14 September 2009.
